  • 3 x Sweet Potato Slips (Victoria Only)
    $6.00

    Only available to Victoria

    White skin with Purple flesh.

Sweet potato slips are shoots taken from a mature sweet potato – each slip grows into a full plant.

How to plant: On arrival, wrap the bottom half of the shoots in moist paper towel (or sit in a glass of water) and keep in a warm spot. Once roots are an inch or two long, pot up into a small container with good quality potting mix and grow on indoors or in a sheltered spot. Plant out from mid – October onwards, once soil temperature is consistently above 18°C. Sweet potatoes are frost-tender – do not rush planting out into cold soil.

  • 8 x Egyptian Walking Onion Bulbs
    $4.00

A unique heirloom onion that multiplies underground and produces clusters of small bulbils on top of tall stems. As the stems arch and touch the ground, the bulbils take root – hence the name “walking” onion. Plant one bulb and you can have a lifetime supply.

When to plant: Autumn through winter. In Central Victoria, plant from April to July.

Planting depth: 3cm deep with the pointed tip just below the soil surface. Space bulbs 15 – 40cm apart – closer spacing for harvesting greens, wider for larger bulbs.

    $2.00

    Open pollinated. Approx 20 seeds.

A long-term investment in your garden. Asparagus is a perennial vegetable that, once established, will produce harvests every spring for 20 years or more. Growing from seed takes patience – expect to wait 3 years before your first proper harvest – but it is more economical than crowns.

When to plant: Spring. Start seeds in trays or pots indoors and transplant out once seedlings are 20 – 25cm tall and frost risk has passed.

Germination: 2 – 3 weeks at 20 – 25°C. Soak seeds overnight in water before sowing to improve germination speed. Sow 1cm deep in seed-raising mix and keep consistently moist. Seedlings are slow-growing in the first few months – this is normal.

  • Celosia Seeds - Pink mix
    $2.00

    Open pollinated seeds

When to plant: Spring through early summer, once all frost risk has passed. In Central Victoria, sow from October onwards. Celosia loves warmth – in cool climates it’s worth waiting until early summer rather than rushing it, as cold soil will slow or stall germination.

Germination: 10-14 days at 21-27°C. Celosia seeds need light to germinate – sow directly onto the surface of moist seed-raising mix and press in gently. Do not cover. Bottom water or mist to avoid washing the tiny seeds away.

    $2.00

    Open pollinated seeds

When to plant: Spring through early summer, after all frost risk has passed. Can be started indoors 6 – 8 weeks before last frost for an earlier display. Seeds can also be direct sown into warm soil once temperatures are consistently above 18°C.

Germination: 4 – 10 days at 24 – 28°C. Sow seeds 1cm deep in moist seed-raising mix. Keep warm – a heat mat or warm windowsill speeds things up. Once shoots emerge, move to a bright position to prevent leggy seedlings.
